Not all printers you can buy will work. Have a look at Suggested Printers for Free Software Users∞ on Linuxprinting.org.

We have short (but definitely incomplete) list of printers our users found worked, and didn't work.
Printers that work

Minolta 1350W - This printer works without doing anything except setting it up in the PCLOS Control Panel
HP printers are well supported by PCLinuxOS.
- Never had any problem getting HP Deskjets to work. Good results are reported for: HP Deskject 845c, 722, 970cxi.
- HP all in one's are the best supported units for Linux. Depending on what you want to spend the current 1410-1610 line should work just fine. Older models such as HP Officejet 6110xi also works great.
- Also HP PSC 1315, 1350, 1410, 1510, 1610, 2110 and 2510 are all reported to be working perfect.
- HP LaserJet 6P, 5L, 1100 and 1200 are reported to work perfectly
- HP LaserJet 8150 (through network) without a problem
- HP LaserJet 1010 work with a small problem; every once in a while you have to hard reset the printer.
- HP Officejet 5610 - I have printing working, scanning not working yet
- HP Photosmart 7150 via SMB share from Windows PC
- HP Photosmart 7760 when I set it up it defaults to Raw Printer or 8400, but you don't have to accept the default and you pick the correct model from the list. It then works perfectly. Problems printing from Scribus in 1200x1200 or 600x600 with Full Bleed, so don't select Full Bleed in these resolutions in Scribus.
- HP Color LaserJet 4650 (only prints in black and white).
Epson Stylus printers seem to work good as well.
- Epson Stylus C65, Photo 830 and Photo R210 works out of the box with PCLinuxOS
- Epson Stylus Photo R210 works out of the box with PCLinuxOS and will print directly to CDs/DVDs.
- Epson Stylus Photo R300 - Works perfectly, including the embedded memory card readers. Also, prints to CDs using Guetenprint in GIMP
Canon PIXMA IP3000 via the canon bjc7000 driver--no duplex-- other wise works fine for me.
- Canon LBP 430 via SMB share from Windows PC
- Canon i560 and i550 works well with the Canon bjc7000 driver
Brother
- Brother HL-1250 works with PCLinuxOS out of the box without installing Brother drivers.
Samsung
- Samsung ML-2010 is an inexpensive laser that works well with PCLinuxOS. Samsung ships a Linux driver with the printer, but I recommend downloading the latest version from Samsung.
- Samsung SCX-4216F Multifuction Center (laser printer, color scanner, copier, fax) works perfectly with PCLinuxOS and comes with linux drivers and install program

on the CD, prints and scans without any problems at all.

- Samsung ML1740 using the ML1710 driver
Kyocera
- Kyocera FS600 works out of the box
- Kyocera-Mita FS1000+ laser works out of the box with PCLinuxOS.
Konica-Minolta
- Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2430DL color laser printer works out of the box with PCLinuxOS, has linux drivers on CD, has network card installed and prints quickly over my wireless network with fantastic results.
Lexmark
- Lexmark Z53 and Z73 work fine.
Sharp
- Sharp ARM455U

Printers you can get to work

Brother printers work well in PCLinuxOS, with the install of Brother drivers from Brother's Linux drivers site. For instructions on how to install Brother drivers in PCLinuxOS refer to this∞Forum posting.

Lexmark 600 series printers will work also. Try this thread∞ or this one∞. You can also try my ftp server∞ for the two rpms needed, then run ldconfig, then (if you didn't set it to ignore dependancies while installing) use "rpm -e --justdb z600cups" and you'll be able to add your printer as usual in the control panel.
Dell 1710 (Use the Generic PCL6/PCL XL driver.)
Epson ME 1+ works fine (use Epson C44)

A lot of lasers have a "conform to HP standard" mode for historical reasons. Also quite a few printers probably support the Generic PCL standard.
Printers that perhaps you may not get work

Lexmarks Printers will be difficult to get to work
- You might get some Lexmark printers to work though, see our forum∞.
- Lexmark X125. Download the driver from http://www.linuxprinting.org∞. When you run the PCLOS printer installer it gives you a place to upload a PDD file. Once that is done it ought to work, but the "print test page" option in the PCLOS Control Center configure printer does not work.
- Lexmark Scanner see Sample Lexmark Faq: Scanner Driver∞

Dell Printers seem to be from Lexmark.
