KDE 4 packages for the PCLinuxOS distrubtion are scheduled to arrive in the PCLinuxOS repositories by the end of June or sooner if things build well. Hopefully most of the 3rd party applications will have matured enough to replace their KDE 3 counterparts.

Good news
i’m waiting…
Hi Guys.
Thats great news for some of PCLinuxOS users… I am working on the older machines and I really got used to the kde 3.5. Can you tell me would I have to update or will there be a option for kde 4 as a alternative desktop env?
Will PCLinuxOS become a kde4 distro in the nearest future?
Thanks
Andy
P.S. Keep up to the great work!
And the anticipation grows………………..Looking forward to the day.
Por fin!!!
KDE 4 (4.3?!) would make this distro the best! 3.5 looks so dated (as in Windows 3.1) KDE 4 is leaps and bounds ahead (as in Windows Vista or 7) It’s amazing that I just downloaded this onto a botable usb stick, booted it and all my hardware was installed! Even my video card was detected (Nvidia fx5500) and the propper drivers installed and set up to use compiz (all other distros I have to fiddle with the config files to get everything working) PLEASE get KDE 4 up and running so people will rave about PCLinuxOS instead of Kubuntu or OpenSuse. Thanks for all you work.
Unfortunately, I think the majority of KDE4 apps are still needing some time to mature, but KDE4 itself, with KDE 4.2/4.3 is quite stable.
This is great news!!! I’m looking forward to this new release. It would be nice if there is an upgrade option.
Right now 4.3 beta 3 is kicking me tail. The packages are built but KDM refuses to log me into anything. GDM and Entrance (17) works just fine.
great news
I´m waiting …
@ Tex, are there actually Beta 3 packages, or are you referring to RC1? Also, have you filed a bug report on KDM?
Got a little help on the forum and kdm is working now. I’m using 4.2.91 tarballs as of last week. I guess that’d be beta 2. Got too many things going on!
kde3.5.10 is great to use,but kde4.3 is much better now .
I hope we can use kde4.3 earlier.
So will it be KDE 4.3 that will hit the repos, or 4.2.4? Will KDE4 apps be in the repos as well?
I am really happy that kde4 will be added to pclinuxos . Now I will be able to use it again(I just love kde4 and for the mment I’m using mandy). Anyway I hope you will allso keep the old kde3 apps because some are far better than the new kde4 apps( for example amarok).
A PCLinuxOS marriage with KDE 4.3 would be a match made in heaven. It would be hard to stop the upward momentum!
